In the Boxing day test, Indian team Captian Virat Kohli showed confidence in youth rather than his experienced players. This confidence of Kohli resulted in favour of India when Mayank and Hanuma broke the 7-year-old record by giving a good start to the team.

New record created in SENA country:

Mayank and Hanuma batted for 18.5 overs in the first innings of the Melbourne Test. After July 2011, this is the highest partnership by any Indian opening pair in SENA Country i.e. South Africa, England, New Zealand and Australia in terms of facing balls.

Earlier this record was in the name of Indian Opening pair of Shikhar Dhawan and KL Rahul, who batted for 18.4 overs in the Nottingham Test against England in August this year.

Missed highest opening partnership record:

However, Mayank and Hanuma broke the Indian record of playing the most ball for the opening wicket in the SENA country but they could not break the record of the highest opening partnership of 63 runs.
In the Lords Test in 2011, Abhinav Mukund and Gautam Gambhir scored 63 runs in 18.2 overs, then in the first Test of the series, which was played in Adelaide, Murali Vijay and KL Rahul also added 63 runs in 18.2 overs.
