India's young wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant has created history in the Melbourne Test. On the fifth day of the Boxing Day Test match, he caught Nathan Lyon of Ishant's bowling in second innings and completed his 20th catch of the series.
With this, Rishabh Pant has become the Indian wicketkeeper to take the most catches in a Test series. Prior to Rishabh Pant, this record was jointly named after former wicketkeeper Syed Kirmani and MS Dhoni. Kirmani and Dhoni took 17 catches behind a wicket in a Test series.
Apart from this, Rishabh Pant had overtaken Dhoni in the first Test match of the series played in Adelaide in the case most catches by a wicketkeeper in a test match, Rishabh Pant had a total of 11 catches in that match.

Pant breaks a 63-year-old big world record:

After taking 11 catches in the first test, in the 2nd Test of the series played in Perth, Pant took 6 catches and 3 catches in the Melbourne Test, making a total 20 dismissals in the test series, which is most for any Indian wicketkeeper.

Prior to Rishabh Pant, Naren Tanhane had made 19 dismissals way back in 1954/55 against Pakistan and Syed Kirmani equalled this record of Naren in 1979/80 against Pakistan, while Dhoni had made 17 dismissals against Windies (2006) and England (2014).

With this, Rishabh Pant has broken the 63-year-old record of Naren-Kirmani and has become India's most successful wicketkeeper in a test series.
