Mayank's amazing innings was outdone by Nathan Lyon. Prior to the dismissal, Mayank and Pujara added a big partnership of 116 runs for the 2nd wicket, which could become a turning point for the match.

Mayank joins the special club of Rahul Dravid:

Mayank scored his second half-century of the career. Along with this, Mayank has become only 4th Indian batsmen who have scored 2 half-centuries in the first innings of the first two Tests of the career.
Before him, Phadkar, Rahul Dravid and Arun Lal have achieved this special feat. Earlier, on his debut match, Mayank had scored 76 runs in the first innings of the Melbourne Test.
Mayank has so far scored 189 runs with two half-centuries in three innings of the Test series. While the rest of the 3 Indian openers, Vijay, Rahul and Vihari scored 127 runs in 11 innings together with no half-century in it.

Best Average among Indian openers in the series:

Even in the average, the other Indian opener did not get close to Mayank. Even if we add the total average of the other 3 openers, even then they can't come close to the average of Mayank.
Mayank has so far scored an average of 65 in the Test series, compared to him, Murali Vijay scored at an average of 12.25 in 4 innings. Rahul's average is 11.4 in 5 innings, while Hanuma scored at an average of 10.5 in two innings.
