Defending champions Chennai Super Kings thrashed Royal Challengers Bangalore by 7 wickets in the opening match of IPL 2019 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on Saturday.

Imran Tahir and Harbhajan Singh claimed three wickets each as RCB stumbled for a paltry 70 runs after CSK invited them to bat first.

In response, the home team had a slow start of 16/1 in the power play. Ambati Rayudu top-scored with 28 runs, while Kedar Jadhav remained unbeaten on 13 and Ravindra Jadeja added 6 runs to his name and helped CSK to chase down the low target of 71 in the 18th over with 14 balls to spare.

During this match, Suresh Raina scored 19 runs and became the first batsman to score 5,000 runs in IPL. Yuzvendra Chahal's opening spell of 1-6 in 4 overs with the new ball was the only golden light for the Challengers in the match.
